Falling in Love with Movies
This is the perfect time of year to curl up on a cold and rainy (or snowy) night with a special someone and a great film. I am a total lover of both swingin’ singin’ musicals and the deep introspective romances - so with that in mind, allow me to present the perfect double feature for any film fan this weekend.
Start off with one of the most romantic movies of all time, The Umbrellas of Cherbourg. Starring a young Catherine Deneuve, directed by film maestro Jacques Demy and winner of the Palme D’Or at Cannes, this classic love story is a love letter to musicals and romantics everywhere.
The second half of your Valentine’s Film Festival is Harold & Maude. This dark comedy is the perfect romance for your inner cynic who still really wants to believe in true love. Harold is a cynical rich kid with a wickedly dark sense of humor, chafing against the uptight constraints of his family. Maude (brilliantly played by Ruth Gordon) is a fun loving senior who finds as much joy in stealing cars for joyrides as she does in breaking any social rule that is put in front of her. When these two meet at a local funeral, hilarity, chaos and magic ensues…
