Sundance Day 3- Ashton Kutcher’s Spread gives meaning to Womanizer.

This morning led us to the packed premiere of Ashton Kutcher’s Spread directed by David Mackenzie (”Asylum” and “Mister Foe”). This was set up as a Hollywood dream movie- you know the story- you move to Hollywood with only $10 in your pocket, you get a job that supports a flexible schedule for auditioning for pilot season, and you carry your card around with you, hoping for a chance to meet a director worthy enough of a conversation. This is the dream of thousands of people that come to LA with a dream- 30,000 to be exact. Spread is that story- but with a twist. It follows the life of a male gigolo into his conquests in pursuit of the hollywood dream. Nicky, played by Kutcher who has the acting range that makes this movie somewhat palatable. He seduces an older woman (life imitating art), manages to romance her for months, all while living off of her wealth. You could argue that even with money coming out of every mattress, and no matter how many times you have sex for conquest- once you fall in love- it hits you hard.

Nicky falls in love with his equal, Heather who dates and the same- falls in love with the rich and wealthy. This movie takes gold-digging to new heights, but might of stayed true to it’s Indie roots it it didn’t feature Kutcher. One thing had me wondering- with the countless minutes of gratuitous sex (with Anne Heche)- what was Demi Moore thinking during the premiere?

NOTE: Keep an eye out for the talented and beautiful Margarita Levieva- sure to give Jessica Alba a run for her money.
