Celebrate Guy Fawkes Day with a FREE (!) Hitchcock classic!
Everyone at Jaman HQ is reeling (delightedly, for the most part) from yesterday’s historic election, in which Barack Obama was elected as our next President. The celebratory mood has crossed the Atlantic, and even as we write this our friends in the UK are preparing for the fireworks and bonfires of Guy Fawkes Day!
Guy Fawkes Day is the anniversary of the defeat of a 1605 terrorist plot to blow up London’s Houses of Parliament. Every November 5th, all over the UK fireworks are exploded (in large and thrilling quantities) and conspirator Guy Fawkes (the demolitions expert whose capture thwarted the Gunpowder Plot) is burned in effigy.
In the spirit of the holiday, Jaman is delighted to offer (for FREE!) Alfred Hitchcock’s classic (and funny!) thriller The 39 Steps. Robert Donat is a man on the run chasing a spy ring trying to smuggle state secrets out of England even as the authorities are convinced he is involved. The first of Hitchcock’s many films centering on an unjustly-accused protagonist, the film remains rightly heralded as a classic of British cinema, and Jaman is proud to offer it for free! So save your “pennies for the Guy” and click the poster below to enjoy The 39 Steps!
