Tim Burton casts Bonham Carter and Anne Hathaway.
I was thrilled when Tim Burton announced that he was in production with a live-action and CGI version of the Disney classic “Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland” (also rumored to be in 3-D). Shortly after that announcement, Johnny Depp signed on as the Mad Hatter- and I knew this would be movie magic. I’m picturing a gothic style adaptation, combining the darkness of The Corpse Bride and the brilliance of Charlie and The Chocolate Factory.
Just when you thought it couldn’t get any better- Anne Hathaway and Helena Bonham Carter also signed on.

Bonham Carter will be playing the evil The Red Queen and Hathaway will playing her sister The White Queen. This is Bonham Carter’s and Depp’s fourth Burton film together- and how can you forget the most amazing pair in Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street. This would be Depp’s seventh film with Burton. Playing Alice is relative newcomer- Mia Wasikowska, who most recently was seen on HBO’s series In Treatment. Hollywood insiders reported that Lindsey Lohan wanted the role of Alice but she had hoped that they didn’t “cast an unknown”. Right Lindsey, for Tim Burton to actually take you seriously as an actor- there would have to be a more memorable role than Mean Girls to impress him.
If you can’t wait for the movie to come out in 2010, check out a Conversations with Other Women starring Helena Bonham Carter and the incredible Sweeney Todd. Also if you were lucky enough to catch Anne Hataway’s host stunt on SNL last week, I leave you with this quote “This summer I broke up with my boyfriend and two weeks later he was sent to prison for fraud. I mean, we’ve all been there, right, ladies?”.

To be honest (though I’m sure Alice is gonna be great), I’m more looking forward to the rumored DARK SHADOWS remake to be directed by Burton, starring Depp as Barnabas Collins. That could all be Hollywood scuttlebutt, however.
