Can Nicolas Cage please just stop it.
I admit it. I used to be a big Nicolas Cage fan. Back when he was rocking it Lynch style for Wild at Heart, or getting down with his 80’s self in Valley Girl, even the later role as one of the most epic drunks of all time in Leaving Las Vegas had me firmly entrenched as a fan. As someone who defended his talent, his quirky and his choice of films. I never believed that his origins in the Copolla family were the cause for his fame but that it was just real hard core talent and a love of film. Even Face/Off was still a John Woo vehicle and I was with him.
But WHAT has happened to this former indie darling? How many Con Air-esque action films do I need to see him in all bulging muscles and Hollywood hype before my former affection is just completely obliterated?

I was almost done when I heard the recent announcement of his involvement in the Bad Lieutenant remake, but with his newest remake - the film Bangkok Dangerous - arriving in theaters this weekend, I give up. Bangkok Dangerous is an amazing film. Let me restate. The ORIGINAL Bangkok Dangerous is an amazing film. It deserved more attention in the US but not a full on Hollywood recreation that likely will obliterate and bury the original film. Yes, I know the remake is totally the exact same film, set in the same city, with the same directors - but I am sorry - I am going to spend the weekend watching the original on Jaman and trying really hard not to imagine Cage in any of the scenes.

I haven’t seen the Hollywood Bangkok Dangerous movie yet, but after watching yet another let down Cage film “The Knowing”, I’m not sure I want to. The trailer for the original looks good though… Ill give that a go first…
