Katherine Heigl tells Emmy- No Thanks not this year.
This is either a really big publicity stunt, or another case of how delusional Hollywood actors have become.
According to AP, Katherine Heigl said “I did not feel that I was given the material this season to warrant an Emmy nomination and in an effort to maintain the integrity of the academy organization” decided against competing, Heigl said in a written statement provided by her publicist, Melissa Kates, who was contacted by the AP.

“In addition, I did not want to potentially take away an opportunity from an actress who was given such materials,” added Heigl. She plays Dr. Izzie Stevens on “Grey’s Anatomy,” which slipped in the ratings this past season but remained a top 10 show.
Look- My take, you support the writers, even if the material is just okay. I can’t wait for the actual live telecast, when I’m hoping she is a presenter. Will make for a great tomato throwing match. Katherine please wear a white dress- polka dots are the hot thing this season.
Nominations for the 60th Primetime Emmy Awards will be announced July 17. The ceremony is Sept. 21.

ok - omg. that’s more than a slap in the face. that’s her saying she knows more about quality than the emmy people themselves. that level of arrogance makes me kinda hope that her writers make her character turn into a complete laughable idiot next season - because that’s clearly what’s happening in real life.
this makes me so sad. i liked her so much as an actress. i like the show a good deal. way to destroy the illusions katherine.

You know, I can understand George C. Scott not showing up at the Oscars on the year he wins. Out of modesty, dedication to the craft, your art isn’t about winning awards, sure.
But turning down a nomination “to maintain the integrity of the academy organization” in addition to trashing members of your creative team? That’s odd, and sinister, and just plain wrong.

“you support the writers, even if the material is just okay” — ehhh, really? would you really want your name riding substandard material? and getting awarded for it?

You support the writers publicly and yell at them in private, if you don’t like what they are writing. That’s just part of working as a team with other people. I’d certainly take her public remarks into account, if I was thinking about hiring her for a new role.

Are you serious. Now I know how to get kicked off of Grey’s Anatomy- either make a homophobic slur or be an idiot and remove yourself from any possible award.
Good Job Kate.

…yeah, you’re probably right Jamie. it would be for the good of the show to win an award for her to bite her tongue and be less of a fragile-artist-type.

Ok, what the heck is she thinking? It’s one thing, as David pointed out, to win and decline the accolade…but to say, essentialy, ‘I am so fantastic that even though my team gave me crap material to work with, I would certainly be nominated and most likely win.’?
What? What? What?
Such hubris is supremely tacky.
boo.
