Acclaimed Indian Movies On Jaman

We’re all about watching and sharing good movies, which occasionally leads us to give a heads up to our fellow Jamanauts. A couple days ago, I got the following from our Executive Producer for South Asia:

Hi D,

I wanted to share with you 2 of the new Award Winning movies just loaded on Jaman - Chameli and Khamoshi, by two of India’s most acclaimed directors - both films can be seen and discussed for free right now. Feel free to share this with others - the films are only free for a limited time!

Chameli (one of my favorites, right after Umrao Jaan) is acclaimed Director Sudhir Mishra’s story of one stormy night in the red-light district of Bombay. It features standout performances by Rahul Bose and Kareena Kapoor, playing against her Bollywood type. Featuring award winning cinematography by Assem Bajaj, Chameli is a fresh look at Indian cinema.

Khamoshi is Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s debut film, which he followed by his 2005 mega hit, Black. Noted to be one of the best directors in India today, Bhansali presents a powerful portrayal of the lives of a deaf and mute couple (brilliantly played by Nana Patekar and Seema Biswas of Bandit Queen fame) and their musically gifted daughter, played by Manisha Koirala. Winnner of 5 awards, including two for best acting by Manisha Koirala, Khamoshi is a masterful merging of Art films and Bollywood cinema.

Thanks Geetanjali! These look like wonderful works. It’s so nice to have experts at hand with recommendations, which is one of the (many) things I love about Jaman… So many of our members are filmmakers, film enthusiasts, and film publicists. It’s so much more than movie downloads when we have this rich community of resources!
