The announcement from the Cannes Film Festival that Martin Scorsese is teaming with Lars von Trier for a... sequel? iteration? continuation? of Trier and Leth's The Five Obstructions may turn out to be the "wait, what? HOLY SHIT!" moment of the festival.
The original film captured Trier challenging Jorgen Leth, his filmmaking idol, to remake his own short film The Perfect Human five times, in escalatingly challenging and frustrating ways.
We're just as intrigued as the Hollywood Reporter about which film Trier will have Scorsese remake (and remake. And remake...) for the project, though his interest in Taxi Driver has us salivating - they've been talking about this for a while now. In the meantime, The Five Obstructions is a film well worth revisiting (or experiencing for the first time, and can be seen on Jaman.
